Hermanos y hermanas, Compañeros en armas en la lucha,
Nuestro camarada amado Augusto Boal, ese sembrador incansable de semillas, que viajó por los últimos confines de la tierra que esparcen la semilla del teatro del oprimido, está hoy sin embargo otro viaje. Él emprendió viaje en las primeras horas de la madrugada del día 2 despues de que él gastó el primero de mayo, en una vigilia de solidaridad con los trabajadores combatiendo por un trabajo y mundo más feliz, un mundo de solidaridad.
Él emprende este viaje de forma especial, para que no se discuta que no fuera capaz de estar presente fisicamente en ningún evento. Pero, tal cual vivió, él vivió, amado y trabajando hasta el fin de la ultima gota de su energía, dejando lista, para su publicación, la nueva versión de su libro, “La estética del oprimido”. Dejó también expresas instrucciones de que ningún evento debe ser cancelado debido a su ausencia. '¿Ése no es el mismo punto de la multiplicación?"
Ayer, el tres de mayo, tuvimos una ceremonia de despedida. La cremación de su cuerpo marcó el inicio de una nueva fase del teatro del oprimido, en la ausencia física de su creador. Nosotros lloramos, dijimos, cantamos. Celse Frateschi declamó, bella, un paso de Arena Conta Zumbi. Cantamos una canción escrita por Nuno Arcanjo. Y Cecilia Boal, con toda su fortaleza y vitalidad, dijo al mundo que su esposo debe ser recordado como el guerrero que siempre era. Secamos nuestras lágrimas y aclamamos la sobra de Boal.
Su cuerpo se ha ido, pero no su presencia! este sábado, el 9 del mayo, desde 5pm hasta 8pm (hora de brasil), nosotros ratificaremos su presencia con un homenaje, en el centro del teatro del oprimido con música, poemas, trabajos y videos. A las 7pm nos detendremos para hacer un minuto de oración en honor de Boal. Nosotros celebraremos la vida, la lucha, la productividad, el trabajo de Augusto Boal y la continuidad de ese trabajo. Llamamos y estimulamos todos para hacer el mismo homenaje a su recuerdo en este sábado.
Que los necesitados escriban un mensaje para ser expuesto en el mural que honrre a Boal, por favor envialo toclaudetefelix@ctorio.org.br hasta 3pm (hora de Brasil) el jueves.
No será fácil seguir sin nuestro sea maestro, pero asociese al amigo y al camarada en la lucha. ¿Pero qué alguna vez ha sido fácil en la trayectoria del teatro del oprimido?
Ética y solidaridad serán nuestros objetivos y nuestra guías. Multiplicación será nuestra estrategia. Y nuestra meta permanecerá la ascensión de efectos sociales concretos para ocasionar la transformación de realidades opresivas.

Brothers and sisters in arms, companions in the struggle,
Our beloved comrade Augusto Boal, that tireless sower of seeds, who travelled the four corners of the earth scattering the seed of the Theatre of the Oppressed, is on yet another journey. He set off in the early hours of the second of May. He spent the First of May, May day, in a vigil of solidarity with the workers fighting for a fairer and happier world, a world of solidarity.
He set off on this special journey, for which reason he was not able to be physcially present at any event. But, as was his habit, he lived, loved and worked to the last drop of his energy, leaving ready -for publication- the new version of his book, The Aesthetics of the Oppressed. He also left express instructions that no event should be cancelled because of his absence. ’Isn't that the very point of Multiplication?“
Yesterday, on the third of May, we held a farewell ceremony . The cremation of his body marked the start of a new phase of the Theatre of the Oppressed, in the physical absence of the Master himself. We wept, we talked, we sang. Celse Frateschi declaimed, beautifully, a passage from Arena Conta Zumbi. We sang a song written by Nuno Arcanjo. And Cecilia Boal, with all her strength and vitality, told the world that her husband should be remembered as the warrior that he always was. We dried our tears and acclaimed Boal's leaving.
His body has gone, but not his presence! This Saturday, the 9th of May, from 5pm to 8pm (Brazilian time), we will ratify his presence with a homage, at the Centre of the Theatre of the Oppressed with music, poems, performances and videos. At 7pm we stop to make a minute of ovation to Boal´s honor. We will celebrate the life, the struggle, the productivity, the work of Augusto Boal and the continuity of that work. We ask and stimulate everybody to do same homage to him in this Saturday.

It will not be easy to follow our Master, Partner, Friend and Comrade in the Struggle. But what has ever been easy in the trajectory of the Theatre of the Oppressed?
Ethics and Solidarity will be our foundations and our guides. Multiplication will be our strategy. And our goal will remain the mounting of concrete social actions to bring about the transformation of oppressive realities.

Dear Colleagues
I thought that Council, National Centres and members of the Standing Committee for Children and Youth and the ADC would appreciate the notice of the death of Augusto Boal. He was and will remain a key influence on drama and theatre practice throughout the world.
I have sent the condolences of AITA/IATA to the family.
